Merstham Amateur Dramatic Society (MADS) was founded in 1930 (when rehearsals were conducted in evening dress!) and revived very successfully after the Second World War. They went on to become one of the foremost amateur societies in the area, performing at least twice a year at their home, the purpose-built little theatre which is Merstham Village Hall.
The opening of the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill brought new challenges and it is always a valuable experience for amateurs to perform on a professional stage. They have presented a number of productions there including 'Tom Jones' and 'The Heiress' by Henry James. They don't neglect their roots, however, and also perform at the refurbished Merstham Village Hall.
A friendly Society, with a 'professional' outlook on their productions, MADS always strives for a high standard. For more information please contact: Chairman Ann Weaver on 01737 763320 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
MADS on the MOVE is the part of Merstham ADS which provides daytime live drama performances. Since the summer of 2002 they have been taking rehearsed one act play readings, sketches, etc. out into the community and this has provided a two-fold benefit. It entertains people who are unable to go to the theatre and it gives their members a chance to act without having to learn lines! New participants are always welcome but must be available in the daytime to rehearse and perform.
