The Festival holds both competitive and non competitive classes in music, singing, and speech and drama. There are opportunities for both individuals and groups to enter a wide range of adjudicated classes. The majority of classes in the Festival, which runs for 10 days each May, are for young people.
If you are learning to play an instrument, how to sing or are taking speech and drama, then there are classes for you. They cover piano, harp, strings, guitar, woodwind, brass, speech & drama, vocals, music groups and choirs, with classes for different ages and level of experience from beginners to Grade 8 and above.
All classes are judged by professional adjudicators and most performers receive a certificate and adjudication report. Cups, medals and other awards are presented in many classes.
At the end of the Festival, a concert featuring outstanding performances from the Festival is held at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill. The Festival also holds master classes, workshops and recitals specifically for young musicians.
There is a small fee for each class and applications have to be made between December and mid-February. Entries can be made by individuals or through music teachers and schools.
